Dean Wootten FCA CTA

Dean Wootten has been involved in VAT training for many years and lectures on a wide variety of VAT matters. Dean started his career as a Chartered Accountant, qualifying with Grant Thornton in 1988. Dean then spent two years overseas with KPMG before returning to a medium sized provincial firm in Sussex. Shortly after returning to the UK Dean qualified as an Associate of the Institute of Taxation in 1991.

Whilst in practice Dean gained valuable experience including five years at partner level. The experience gained enables Dean to focus his lecturing on the practical aspects of the issues presented.

Dean has provided VAT CPD training for VAT specialists and practitioners for over 25 years. Many VAT practitioners will have come across Dean when they studied for their CTA exams at Tolley’s.  Dean was the senior tutor on the CTA VAT papers at Tolley for many years before taking a step back to focus on VAT CPD training.

When delivering his quarterly VAT updates at many of the top 20 accountancy firms, the most commonly heard phrase from seniors through to partners and directors is “You taught me CTA”!

Dean has also provided VAT training in EU law with particular focus on the Principal VAT Directive and the implications of key CJEU decisions.

In 2014 Dean worked with the Bahamian Government in preparation for the introduction of VAT in the Bahamas from 1 January 2015. Dean was also involved in training advisors in Dubai when they introduced VAT from 1 January 2018.
